We'll be staging 'pop-up' try-out events around Sydney in the coming weeks. You might want to come along and try it out for the first time, challenge a friend to a dual, get some training in, or simply lay down a menacing time to send ripples through the Goldsprints community, and get your fellow competitors rather worried…
Next try-out - Martin Place 12-2pm on Tuesday October 11!
The BFF Goldsprints will be held at The Standard (formerly Lo-Fi) @ Floor 3, 383 Bourke St, Surry Hills 2010.
There'll be DJs spinning, the Goldsprints up on a stage, the crowd going nuts under the disco lights… don't miss it!
You can find out more about The Standard here.
People who dress up go even faster! That's right, dress up in the 'Riders On The Storm' theme and we GUARANTEE your legs will instantly become more powerful (and sexier)! Come along in your interpretation of the theme, or pickup the official jersey on the night (which is soooooo 'Riders On The Storm', it even says it on the back).
Arriving just in time for the event! These bad boys will be given to the winners of the guys and gals finals - marking the official Bicycle Film Festival/Goldsprints jersey for 2011. Only 26 were made, and will be available for sale at the event and at MC Cyclery on Clarence St.
Built to eke out as much speed as possible on the velodrome, Omnium features an ALUXX SL aluminum frame that perfectly blends aerodynamics and stiffness. With a specially designed aero fork and no brake bosses or bottle cage mounts to slow you down, Omnium beats the competition, or the clock.
To the victor go the spoils - there is an Omnium from MC Cyclery for the guys and gals winner of the 2011 Goldsprints.

From Wikipedia: A Goldsprint is a bicycle rollers racing and social event. Riders on stationary bikes compete against each other in front of spectators. While roller racing has a history going back to the beginning of cycling, Goldsprints are fairly new and closely related to bicycle messenger culture. It began in Zurich, Switzerland as part of the 1999 Cycle Messenger World Championships. At which point the name and the event were founded by Adrien Weber, a passionate cyclist and owner of the TurbinenBräu brewery in Zurich, Turbinenbräu. The event was named after their beer brand "Gold-Sprint".
The rules are pretty simple. The fastest male and female riders from the heats make up the finals - which is a knock-out competition (one set of finals for male and one for female riders). Each final comprises 2 riders, the fastest of which over 500m is declared the winner and moves on to the next round. The grand final is a sprint-off between the last 2 riders, where one achieves ultimate glory as Mr or Mrs Goldsprints 2011!
The judges' decision is final - well, usually...
There are a number of events coming up - so people can try Goldsprints. These will be advertised on this site shortly. The big event for 2011, however, is the Bicycle Film Festival Goldsprints on October 14 at The Standard, Surry Hills.
Yes! As opposed to traditional roller racing, where riders have to balance, Goldsprints use forkstands so that the riders don't have to balance, only pedal as fast as they can. This provides an easy way for anyone to try Goldsprints - and we'd love to have you come and try out in the heats!
There's nothing specific you need to bring - except a sense of fun and adventure - and clothing/footwear suitable for pedalling very, very fast.
No! There is no cost to enter, so if you would like to have a crack - please do!
Absolutely not. If Goldsprints are not your thing, we'd still love to have you along to cheer, drink and be merry. It's a fantastic spectator sport and a big crowd makes for an electric atmosphere. See you there!
You don't have to register, you can simply show up on the night. However, if you want to have some fun - and a guaranteed heat - register your profile and get busy taunting your opponents!
The prizes are great. 1st prize is a Giant Omnium from MC Cyclery + Giant as well as some great swag from Onitsuka Tiger. We're talking a couple of grand's worth of prizes for the fastest legs in Sydney (both buys and gals). 2nd prize is an apparel pack from Well Dressed Vandals and some great Audio Technica gear. Not to mention the unwavering respect of hundreds of fellow riders...
